Bees 0-1 Blues
Our first game of the last season at Griffin Park ends in a 1-0 defeat to a very defensive Birmingham City.
Brentford started the better of the two teams but just couldn’t find the back of the net, first Watkins hits the bar, then Marcondes and Watkins goes on to hit the post shortly after a great save from Camp after Marcondes was put through one-on-one.
The Bees did however go in 1-0 down at half time after a cracking header I have to say. But that’s where the City excitement ends, one shot, one goal. The game plan seemed to be get in front and then sit back. It worked.
Bar their goal we looked defensively solid for the 90 minutes, Jansson, calm, cool and collected with Jeanvier on one side and Pinnock on the other. Raya didn’t have to anything other than pick the ball up from out of the net.
New boys Raya, Jansson, Pinnock and Jensen all played 90 minutes, while Nørgaard picked up a knock against Bournemouth and we are waiting for international clearance for Valencia. Maupay again was not a feature, including Kamo and Benrahma who is still recovering from an injury.
The Maupay situation has gone on for too long, he’s a Brentford player (for now) and you would expect him to do what he’s paid for. We need to put an end to this saga, luckily the transfer window closes on Thursday.
We dominated in the every statistic bar one and that’s the only one that counts. Hey-ho we move on to Middlesbrough next week, who looked defensively frail again Luton.
We go again so they say.
